We’ve successfully completed the decommissioning phase of a boiler replacement project at a private independent boarding school, where maintaining heating service is absolutely critical for the comfort and well-being of pupils aged 11-18.
The school’s heating relies on two oil-fired conventional boilers operating in a duty/standby configuration. This dual-boiler setup provides essential redundancy – one boiler handles the heating load while the other serves as backup. This arrangement has allowed us to safely remove the old boiler while keeping students warm throughout the process.
We plan works to maintain heating continuity in occupied sites, then isolate and decommission equipment safely and compliantly. We manage fuel, electrics and pressurised systems methodically, document each stage, and prepare for installation and commissioning to current standards with a clear handover and certification.

Removing an end-of-life oil-fired boiler is a skilled operation requiring careful attention to safety and compliance.
Our team has completed:

This work required compliance with multiple regulations to ensure safety and environmental protection, including Oil Storage Regulations, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, Control of Asbestos Regulations, and Environmental Protection requirements for waste disposal.
As OFTEC-registered engineers, our team has the competency and qualifications necessary for working on oil-fired heating equipment.

Throughout the decommissioning phase, the school’s second boiler has continued to operate reliably, ensuring uninterrupted heating for boarding houses, classrooms, and facilities – essential in a residential school environment where young people live and study.
We’ve now ordered a new Hoval 530 kW conventional oil-fired boiler to replace the decommissioned unit.
Once installed and commissioned to current Building Regulations and OFTEC standards, the school will benefit from modern, efficient heating technology with full system redundancy restored.
This project demonstrates our commitment to maintaining critical services in sensitive environments.
